Danielle Leach (nee Wightman) was raised on Mackinac Island and graduated from Mackinac Island Public School in 2009. After graduating, Danielle left for Michigan State University where she graduated in December 2013 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Writing, Editing, and Publishing. In 2016, Danielle chose to run for the position of City Clerk and has been annually elected for the position each year since.
Danielle's Dad Dan Wightman served as a member of the Mackinac Island City Council, Fire Department, and was a co-founder of Mackinac Marine Rescue; her mother Kathi currently serves as Chairperson for the Cemetery and Library Boards; her Grandfather Clarence Wightman was an original teamster for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours and served as an Alderman in the 1950's; and her Grandmother Esther was the Chairperson for the Cemetery Board for many years - service to the City of Mackinac Island seems to run in the family.
Danielle resides on the Island year round with her daughter Harper and their Australian Shepherd, Boomer.
