Profile

Chief Topolski grew up in and around Detroit where he worked as a police officer for the Detroit Police Department before retiring as a Lieutenant from the Dearborn Police Department. After retiring from the Dearborn PD, he worked seasonally for the Mason County Sheriff’s Department’s Marine Unit where he operated patrol vessels on Lake Michigan and inland waterways. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Madonna University and began a Masters Degree program at the University of Michigan Dearborn before being hired by the City of Mackinac Island.

Doug is married and has three adult daughters. His wife, Jaye, is a nurse who has worked as a travel nurse in the past at the island’s medical center. Jaye will be living on the island while also working remotely for Henry Ford Hospital and in-person for Hospice of Michigan.

Chief Topolski’s hobbies include music, cooking, various genres of history and you may see him around the island walking his large, yellow English Labrador Retriever, Wagner P. Barker. He is looking forward to meeting many island residents in the coming months both in person and virtually, to build the kind of relationships that maintain trust and a strong sense of community.
